Circle and sphere generator

Making round stuff out of spiky cubes is hard. Pick a shape and a size, and this tool will tell you how to build spheres and domes layer by layer. It will also tell you how many blocks you need.

How to use it

  1. Pick a shape and type its size in blocks, from one side to the other.
  2. Pick a fill: Thin for the lightest outline, Thick for a chunkier wall, Filled for a floor.
  3. Spheres and domes: start from layer 1 (the bottom) and go up one layer at a time with the arrows.
  4. Tap a block to see how far it is from the center. Copy the layer to share it, or download it as a picture.

Questions

Thin, thick or filled?

Thin is the fewest blocks that still close the ring (blocks only touch corner to corner). Thick adds a block at every diagonal step. Filled is the whole disc.

Why do even sizes have 4 blocks in the middle?

Because the center falls between 4 blocks. Odd sizes have one center block, so they're easier to line up with a pillar or a door.

How do I read the edge numbers?

Take 7-2-1-1-1-2-7: build the 7 blocks of the top side, go one down and place 2, then 1, 1, 1 going diagonally, and so on to the middle of the next side. Do it four times and you have a circle.

Why are the top and bottom of my sphere full?

Near the top the sphere is almost flat, so its layers are discs. With rings only, you'd see through the gaps between layers.

Will it fit?

Since 1.18 you can build from Y -64 to 319, so 384 blocks: even the biggest sphere here (128) fits.

How many stacks is that?

A stack is 64 of most blocks (a few, like signs and banners, stack to 16). A shulker box holds 27 stacks: 1,728 blocks.

Where do the rules come from?

The circles follow donatj's Circle Generator, the one most builders use. The sphere is inspired by WorldEdit's //hsphere.
